Tech Struggles, Holds Support

MARKET SUMMARY

U.S. markets somewhat rebounded on Thursday and on of the busiest day for 3Q earnings with a number of major Tech companies announcing after the close. The Dow was led my the financial stocks and came within 26 points of setting a fresh all-time high. The S&P 500 reclaimed the 2,560 level while coming within 11 points of another record high. The Russell 2000 held positive territory throughout the session but failed to hold the 1,500 level. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq struggled after trading on both sides of the ledger while closing slightly lower while holding the 6,550 level.

Bears Growl, Bulls Hold Support

MARKET SUMMARY

U.S. markets were weak throughout Wednesday’s session with the Dow posting its worst decline since early September. The Nasdaq led Wednesday’s pullback but held 6,550 and a key level of support. The S&P also showed losses but held near-term support at 2,550. Meanwhile, the Russell 2000 fell to a fresh low for the month after falling below 1,490 but a level that held into the closing bell.

Blue Chips Shine on Upbeat Earnings

MARKET SUMMARY

U.S. markets opened higher following solid earnings reports from several members of the Dow that propelled the index to another fresh intraday and closing all-time high. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq settled with slight gains but stalled in their efforts in making new record highs with the latter failing the 6,600 level. The Russell 2000 also showed some strength after recovering the 1,500 level.

Small-Caps Close Back Below 1,500

MARKET SUMMARY

U.S. markets traded to fresh all-time highs on Monday’s open but spent the remainder of the session in a tight range before finishing slightly lower. The pullback ended six-session winning streaks for the Dow and S&P 500 with near-term support holding. The Nasdaq closed back below 6,600 for the first time in six sessions while the Russell 2000 failed to hold the 1,500 level for only the second time this month.

Broader Market Up 6th-Straight Week

MARKET SUMMARY

U.S. markets continued their run into blue-sky territory as the Dow and S&P 500 closed at fresh all-time highs on Friday for their 6th-straight week of gains. The Nasdaq also set a record peak and is on a 4-week winning streak. Meanwhile, the Russell 2000 rebounded to end the week in positive territory but fell shy of a lifetime high by 2 points. The Financials led Friday’s sector leaders after rising 1.2%, and 1.4% for the week. Consumer Staples were down 0.2% with the sector falling 0.8% for the week, along with Energy.

Market Recovers Early Losses

MARKET SUMMARY

U.S. markets closed mixed on Thursday after battling back from early morning losses of roughly 1%. The Dow and S&P 500 extended their winning streaks to five-straight after gaining positive territory ahead of the closing bell. The Russell 2000 also rebounded off its morning low to trade into positive territory before finishing slightly lower while holding the 1,500 level. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq was the weakest link, after falling 0.3%, but was able to hold the 6,600 level.

Dow Clears 23,000 / Small-Caps Fail 1,500

MARKET SUMMARY

U.S. markets continued its recent pattern of pushing fresh all-time highs while showing slight intraday weakness. The Dow and S&P 500 traded higher for the fourth-straight session while setting record highs for the sixth time in the past seven sessions. The Nasdaq rebounded to set another record high, as well, while the Russell 2000 was able to recover the 1,500 during Wednesday's action. The Financial and Technology sectors showed strength after rising 0.5% and 0.3%, respectively. Energy was the sector laggard after falling 0.7%.
